Septoria Leaf Spot

  • Cause: Mycosphaerella graminicola
  • Environment: Prefer temperatures from 68- 81°F
  • Timing: Disease develops at a higher rate around the time of heading
  • Appearance: Scout for small lesions on the lower leaves as irregular water-soaked patches that will eventually develop into lens-shaped lesions with dark brown borders. Mature lesions have fungal bodies with small black dots. It can also infect the wheat head causing purple-brown blotches on the glumes starting at the glume tip.
  • Risk: Damage to leaf tissues and decreased yield potential
